Workshop and Documentation of Best Practices on Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) in SMEs and Informal Economy among ASEAN Member States

The Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training of Cambodia with technical assistance from the ILO hosted the Workshop and Documentation of Best Practices on Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) in SMEs and Informal Economy among ASEAN Member States on 17-18 October 2022. The workshop was attended by all ASEAN Member States (AMS), ASEAN +3 Countries, ASEAN Secretariat, ASEAN-OSHNET Secretariat, Representative from ASEAN Trade Union Council (ATUC), ASEAN Confederation of Employers (ACE) and International Organization.

H.E. Dr Ith Samheng, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training of Cambodia, delivered the opening remark. He extended his warm welcome and appreciation to all delegates to the workshop. The workshop aim to provide a platform to explore the context that ASEAN Member States face in attempts to improve OSH in SMEs and informal economy. The agenda is purposed to share good practices and lessons learned that may be drawn from the use of these mechanisms, with a view to better designing future strategies for improving OSH in SMEs and informal economy. Based on valuable implementation experiences, the consensus will be built on the need for further synergies in developing a common approach to protection and promotion of safety and health of workers in SMEs and informal economy and promote the ratification and effective implementation of the Occupational Safety and Health Convention, 1981 (No. 155) and the Promotional Framework for Occupational Safety and Health Convention, 2006 (No. 187).
